The TXT MSG era

Posted in Uncategorized on January 14, 2011 by D roger

Ain’t it obvious I am talking about “Panadol”?  That pink small one for kids laced with some sweet ingredients to make your taste buds confuse it with candy. Wait, pause for a second here and rethink. is it really Panadol I am talking about or any other pill for that matter?;;; I didn’t think so either. I am talking about LAUGHTER. THATS the best medicine if you ask me. This is why.  I have for the longest time tried my best to get around te idea of texting. the Dynamicshange faster than time and to be honest. I am unable to keep ut, however, I just can’t keep off …LOL. the language of talking via keyboards gets me everytime. Whenever I see those colloquial words pasted anywhere be it in a text i receive, the social sites or even in a movie or TV show, it honestly cracks me up. So I read the words SMDH on a popular social site and just right-click on it to get more options on what to do with it because to be straight with you.I had no idea what that meant. the option “search on google” comes up on the drop down menu and I click on it…. A whole list of websites comes down and I could not believe it. There is a whole dictionary of urban texting language out there!!! Urban slang  and texting jargon all arranged in alphabetical order…

Before WTF meant something else, I just knew it as WTF(Wednesday,Thursday and Friday) the way it appears on the calendar. Now add that to the most popular OMG and you have OMGWTF!!!! This is supposedly a surprised look and when you add BBQ to have OMGWTFBBQ!!! Now you are in shock!!! either in excitement or just overly annoyed or whatever.  The dictionary has all the inside and goes on and on and on .BRB

That’s  TXT language to mean be right back. Texting has made it both easier and faster hence the most efficient way of teens to communicate. It comes as no wonder when they develop their own language for reasons like time-saving and ,of course ,PAW(Parents are watching). Whenever I read such stuff I found my self LMAO or better still PMPLMAO on the JK.  You might be going NKT! if you are not getting this and that makes me just ROFL. And since this is catching on with some folk texting up to 10000 text a month, yes, a month. WTH! I might as well learn it because we cannot go like OH SNAP! and fight them so….. just join them..

 LOL !l8ta(h)

perpetual task indeed…

Another long semester is on… and I mean REALLY on for students all over. Does that mean we just started learning again? Well, I would say we just started going to school but learning… we never really stop. You can never stop learning. It is a life long process. We learn about new stuff always, we just don’t know we are learning.  I watched a movie last night on assisted suicide and there was this man in the movie who even on his death-bed, admits that indeed he was learning something new on the moment he was about to lose his life.

The movie is called The Suicide Tourist, a very moving film by PBS if you want to check it out. I digress.Any way the point  want to make really is that we as human folk have an unconscious hunger to learn new things , the degree is only what varies in us.  There might be some complicated educational jargon probably coined by psychologists  or other fancy educationists to say more and educate us on this but all I can say is that: learning is a life long process.

We are learning new things whether in or out of school and from observation I have again LEARNT that we are our very primary motivators.  External factors may plan a part to make us do certain things and learn as or after we do them but the main push is from within. We are only as great as we could dream, and even though most of us are good at making promises we couldn’t keep, planning for things and then planning not to do them and setting goals that are too high that we miss or too low that we achieve and end up being ambitious dwarfs, the first step is for us to learn to understand ourselves , self motivate and have open minds. This gives us a positive outlook which is key to make us move in the right direction.

And just a heads up, you are never too old to set another goal neither too young to set a first one . If you ask me, that  is the key to self-development, and remember everything big started small and only grew.adios.

the “later” mirage…

Here is another of those things am an expert at doing… giving up. I am a master of the art and a Don when it comes to ‘forgetting’ to finish. In short I can say the giant, PROCRASTINATION, will remember me even in the darkest of nights because he knows me so very well. I have learned the skill and I do it in great style: giving excuses and just shutting down my computer because I suddenly see no sense at all .  I have gotten so good at this postponing business that sometimes I find myself about to postpone the postponement of what I was doing. What I mean is that I never find the right time. Later to me is always perfect. One Vincent T. Foss said “One of the greatest labour-saving inventions of today is tomorrow.” No matter how good the atmosphere is, the timing , at least to me , is always better a little bit later.

This has undoubtedly costed me not less. A certain unknown said in life what we regret is the steps we never took , the roads we never walked when we had a chance. I have been procrastinating things over and over and over and over and over until  I get pretty sure I have actually done it because I could replay it on my mind enough times ,each time telling myself I would do it later.

For the very reasons , I like the majority of humanity this year have decided to start with the better foot forward. To break a tradition, a  bad habit and actually FINISH SOMETHING.The momentum is always better or higher when you start at the higher speed. Just like most people, making resolutions is something they we do right before a year ends or just as we usher in a new one. To be honest , I procrastinated  making of my resolutions and now we are almost done with the first day of this year,I reckon it is too late to say they are my resolution for next year because next year is too far away now. Therefore, because of that I have a simple resolution. To minimize procrastination.Period.Procrastination is the art of keeping up with yesterday. Yesterday was last year. Now I want to focus on making things happen and not just occur but in a significant more impact in the most intense and hardest way. With that, I can safely say I finished my first article this year without procrastinating. I proudly present to you my first finished work as a toast for better things to come this year.

GENTLEMEN OR GENTLE MEN?

So I had to learn the rules of American football…. big deal. But whoever thought it was more less like rugby should be caught and be bundled into a cell because that’s a gigantic lie. Kind of like when the Ocampo six say they are innocent. The two games are not the same or even similar in a billion and one ways. The learning took me a couple of months and that is with the substantial number of hours I invested watching, reading and googling about it. To say the least, this is one complicated type of game. For instance, where as in rugby a tackle has to be completed , in American football it is granted if you just somehow stop the opponent-whichever way. The forward,obstruction,knock-ons and many other no nos in rugby are OK in any game of American football. The use of technology to assist the referees makes the game stop ever few seconds for review and confirmation of the rulings. The coaches are also given chance to challenge the referee decision and are sometimes successful. As if that’s not weird enough, each team has a defence team and an offense team. If you gain the ball, the offense team comes in to battle it out with the opponent’s defense team while their offense team is resting are watching. Dare they indeed call it a strong men’s game?!!!as a avid rugby player myself, I first found this game both an insult to rugby and a waste of time because I didn’t understand it at first and because it is referred to a football.Yes, just football, while the football I know was just mere soccer. Well I have to admit that I now rarely miss any football match ,not because I have been americanized but you know necessity is the mother if invention right?Ok then I have a tip for anyone who is interested to leaen this game. While people say rugby is a game watched by gentlement and played by thugs, this is watched by gentlemen and played by gentle men.

finally walking the talk…

Whoa!!! It’s been a LONG time coming. After so long just toying with this idea in my mind. It has come to pass. I finally walked my talk!!! I am deeply excited because I know this is a revolution- to both my life and anyone who passes by this page…. stay with me. I however have to say the biggest motivation is not the inward push I had for a while because the idea of sitting in front of a screen just punching keyboard keys is not fun.  He inspired me and gave me the motivation to also do it.it is like the unconscious push I needed in order to finally do it. So thank you tony malesi. I will make you famous one day :)

I don’t have to say much for now because 1, am tired and 2, i need not talk just to say something but when i have something to say . however, one thing is crystal clear, this s going to be am experience  I will enjoy and if you are interested, join me in this walk… You will NOT regret it.  Much more and better things are on the way and we will be discussing issues in focus on a wide range of topics that will make open our eyes and make us better people.  Keep watching this space.adios
